Hard times await elected political office holders and companies operating in the Niger Delta region that are not contributing to the development of the region.

Chairman of a non-governmental organization; South South Democratic Movement, SSDM, Prince Favour Reuben, who issued the warning while speaking with our correspondent in Port Harcourt, lamented that in spite of its enormous contribution to the national economy, the region is still under-developed.

According to Prince Reuben, the non-political organization will monitor the activities of elected political office holders and companies operating in the area, to ensure that they are contributing meaningfully to the development of the region.

“The purpose of this group is to see that the political operation in Niger Delta is well organized, monitoring all the project that is going in Niger Delta, monitoring all the Senators, House of Representatives, governors, what they are doing. Monitoring NDDC, monitoring the South South Development Commission. It is not the time they will just come into the region, collect money and go without anybody knowing what they are doing. The SSDM is out, so there is no way any politician will escape our net”

While emphasising that South South Democratic Movement will work with any President, Governor and all others willing to development the Niger Delta region, Prince Reuben said the group will act as a voice for the region, support sincere political office holders and ensure that companies in the region, employ indigenes of the area.

“If a Senator is not doing well, or whoever we elected is not doing well, we are going to bring them down. We will tell the whole world that they are doing nothing. Whether you are a local government chairman or may a Senator or Rep, and you make noise that you are there, you must tell us what you are doing in your area, or we will mobilise against you. No company will come to Niger Delta again and employ outsiders and the Niger Delta people will be suffering. We will stop it. You will show us the statistics of your employment. If we are not much, we will stop that company, we are going to mobilise against them, and that is what we are going to be doing”

Prince Reuben, who explained that the group is made up prominent individuals in the region, said they are fully mobilized to monitor performance of political office holders and companies in every part of the Niger Delta.
