The Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, has appealed to Indigenes of communities along the Eleme section of East West road project to volunteer land for the construction of a Trailer park for heavy duty vehicles.

Senator Umahi who made the appeal during the inspection of the Eleme to Onne section of the East West road project, also decried the poor road maintenance culture by Nigerians.

He therefore called on Nigerians to protect the infrastructures put in place by the government.

“We are asking stakeholders on this corridor to give us land so that we can build a place for parking of these trucks.”

“We are being disturbed very highly, the President is doing everything day and night to find money to build the road, we see people parking heavy trucks on the road, the roads are not built for static load. They are parking trucks on the bridges so how will these things last.”

Senator Umahi who expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done on the 15 Kilometers project which is made up of three flyovers and two bridges, valued at 156 Billion Naira, further directed immediate commencement of work on the remaining flyovers and issued a deadline of December this year for the completion of the Aleto-Eleme bridge.

“Let me first commend the quality of work done, I have directed RCC to open jobs in all the remaining flyovers and the bridge. The project manager begged me to add the service lane in all the fly overs which I did and so I am directing him to start it immediately.”

The Federal Controller of works in Rivers State, Mrs Tarilade Ewerema who spoke on the possibility of meeting up with the ministers deadline said it was feasible as the pace of work was commendable in spite of the incessant rainfall.
