Ahead of 2027 general elections, the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Delta State, has elected its executives at a well attended delegates congress to pilot the affairs of the party.
The congress which was attended by hundreds of delegates, chieftains, elders members and other stakeholders of the party was conducted peacefully as the people were orderly.
INEC officials and security personnel were present to observe the exercise which held in Asaba, the Delta State capital , with all the candidates elected unopposed through a voice vote.
Chairman of the electoral committee, an engineer, Kingsley Okafor who conducted the election, said the need for the exercise followed a formal dissolution of the party caretaker committee, and a motion properly moved and seconded by registered members for the congress to hold.
Various leaders and chieftains of the Nigeria Democratic Congress took turns to address the delegates and members of the party about their resolve to change the prevailing ugly narratives in the country including insecurity, economic hardship and corruption.
A former governorship candidate in 2023 election in Delta State, Ken Pela said the movement of heavy political bigwigs into the NDC was not just a political event but a realignment of values and purpose.
He stated further, “Just yesterday (Sunday), we witnessed a development that has further strengthened the Nigeria Democratic Congress; the entry of 2023 Presidential Candidate of Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi into the NDC. It’s a renewal of hope and a possibility of a new Nigeria and a better Delta State .
In an acceptance speech, the newly elected Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Delta State, Chief Angiamaowei Richman Oyindoubra described the election as a successful one, and a sign that will take Nigeria forward .
He said, “At this point in time, God has enabled us to build the Nigeria Democratic Congress in a unified way without rancour. By our election, we have been signed into a responsibility. The people have given us the mandate. We will continue to stand by them to work for the victory of our party come 2027 general elections.
Continuing, Pela stated, “By its slogan, the Nigeria Democratic Congress is designed to serve the people; to serve Nigerians because of the prevailing economic crises and challenges we are facing all over the country,
“In the past, we pay very little to buy fuel but today, the price per litre of fuel is beyond the reach of many Nigerians. The common man has decided to take a step in identifying with NDC to defend our votes; to stand up to address the security and economic challenges bedeviling the country”.
Others who spoke expressed delight over the emergence of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, emphasizing their preparedness to work for the victory of the party in the 2027 general elections.
