Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC Directors have been advised to show direction, build trust and mentor Junior staff.

The lead facilitator, Mr. Adebayo Akinloye  who gave the advice while speaking at NDDC Functional Training for  Directors in Port Harcourt Rivers State,  told   them to  make choices based on the essence of a project.

Mr. Akinloye  stated that there was need to build capability for expansion and  transfer of knowledge  to  subordinates.

According to him,  management decision was critical in the success of the commission.

“You are able to understand how you provide the ideas, guide this individual, focus on this individual, as a transformational leader. You have reached a point where you take decisions about a particular project. So, it  is not about your personal capabilities, but about the people behind who are looking at you as a role model.

What is happening about understanding what they are going through. Have you built a relationship that will give them liberty to approach you to express their individual challenges”

One of the Directors from Project Management,  Mr. Abraham Onduku admitted that the training was impactful and pledged to mentor Junior staff,  while Mr. Ebiweni Lawren  From Agric and Fisheries Directorate acknowledged that the training  exposed them to ways of motivating  staff to achieve results.

“This training is all about transformational leadership, it has been a very wonderful session, right now in NDDC we have a dynamic leader, so efforts are being made for all to key into the vision of the MD”

“One key area of interest during the training was about vision and alignment, where efforts are  to be made to get all stakeholders to align with the vision of the commission.”

The respondents promised to be deliberate in their efforts to ensure all stakeholders have a buy-in into the vision of the commission.
