
Managing Director Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku says the commission is intentional about Women Capacity building.
Dr. Ogbuku made this known at the Flag-off Ceremony of NDDC Training for Niger Delta Women Entrepreneurs, in conjunction with Society of Women Accountants, SWAN, in Port Harcourt Rivers State.
Represented by Executive Director Projects, Dr. Victor Antai, the MD told the participants that the commission earmarked thirty billion naira to set up Niger Delta Chamber of Commerce to grow Entrepreneurs in the oil rich region.

“That is also confirming the saying that training a woman is empowering the family and nation at Large. It is my pleasure to welcome you all to this training put up by NDDC to expose Niger Delta women on various business opportunities and how to take advantage of various opportunities to start a business or grow already existing ones.
We set up Niger Delta Chamber of Commerce to provide business support facilities to Entrepreneurs in the region.
I will encourage you to register with the chamber to be qualified to access the funds for your business expansion.”
In an address, Seventh Chairperson, Society of Women Accountants of Nigeria, SWAN, Port Harcourt Chapter, Dr. Mrs. Isioma Onwo who said that the women would be trained in bookkeeping, Excel, data analysis and tax, encouraged them to leverage on the opportunity provided by NDDC through Niger Delta Chamber of Commerce, to grow their businesses.
Giving a lecture on BookKeeping, Thirty ninth Chairperson SWAN, Port Harcourt Chapter, Mrs. Helen Irobisi identified book keeping as Key to business growth.
Mrs. Irobisi enjoined participants to put themselves on salary and separate business transactions from personal ones as a financial discipline.
While encouraging participants to pay their taxes, a senior Lecturer from University of Port Harcourt, Dr. Mrs. CHIOMA Ojukwu explained that Limited Liability Companies were expected to pay taxes to Federal Government, while States collect from Enterprises and personal income tax.

She stated that the new tax law, “Nigerian Tax Act of Twenty Twenty Five”, would take effect from January twenty twenty six.
According to the academic, Government at all levels need taxes as revenue to be able to provide social and infrastructural amenities.
Another facilitator, Mrs. Franca Ikhinmin who admonished the women to have functional bank accounts, stressed the need to leverage on social media platforms to market their businesses.
She insisted that targeted clients would determine the specific Social media platforms to be deployed.
