The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, John Oyeniyi has reiterated the commitment of the command to winning the war against drug cartels and barons operating in the state.

Briefing newsmen in Asaba, CP Oyeniyi who was recently posted to Delta State, hinted that efforts were being intensified to tackle incidences of illegal drug dealings from the roots.

Oyeniyi said, ”We are going to tackle this drug issue from the root. We will continue to go after those who are the kingpins We have started that already, and we are going to consolidate on it to make sure that drug cartels do not have their way in Delta State”

While soliciting the cooperation of the government and people of Delta State, the police commissioner thanked God and the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu for the trust and confidence placed on him to lead the Delta State Command.

CP Oyeniyi said under his leadership, all tactical teams within the Command would be properly coordinated, supervised, and aligned with the overall policing strategy of the Nigeria Police Force in line with the directive by the Inspector General of Police on the need to streamline tactical operations across Commands.

Continuing, he said, ”The Inspector-General of Police has issued a clear directive on the need to streamline tactical operations across Commands. This directive is both timely and necessary, and under my leadership, all tactical teams within the Delta State Command will be properly coordinated, supervised, and aligned with the overall policing strategy of the Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu .

‘Delta State, being one of the country’s economic hubs, plays a vital role in commerce, industry, and national development. It is therefore important that the State has a strong and effective security architecture to support its growth and stability. While the State offers many opportunities, it also faces security challenges. Our duty is to address these challenges and maintain peace and order across the State”, Oyeniyi stated.

The Delta State Police Commissioner who noted that crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery, and cult activities require quick and well-coordinated responses, gave an assurance that all that was required would be done to combat crimes and criminalities in all parts of Delta State.

Oyeniyi stated further, ”Going forward, we will focus on preventing crime, not just reacting to it. The command will increase police presence in communities, strengthen intelligence gathering, and work closely with residents to improve security. Security is a shared responsibility; all have a role to play in this wise. The command appreciates and will continue to work with the State Government, sister security agencies, Traditional rulers, community leaders, youths and other stakeholders”

”To the good people of Delta State, I encourage you to support the Police by providing useful, timely and credible information, as your cooperation is very important in helping the command to keep the State safe, if you see something, say something”.

He warned that there would be no tolerance for indiscipline, abuse of human rights, and unprofessional conduct of officers, both on and off duty, emphasizing that all officers will be accountable for their actions as they must carry out their duties within the ambit of the law and treat members of the public with respect.
