As part of efforts to bolster epidemic control, the National Orientation Agency (NOA), in synergy with the Akwa Ibom State Agency for the Control of Aids (AKSACA), has pledged to boost public awareness on HIV/AIDS in Akwa Ibom State.

The state director of NOA, Mr Mkpoutom Mkpoutom, described the project as timely, saying it aligns with the National HIV Strategic plan 2023-2027 and the global instruments adding that the document’s structure for the project will guide stakeholders towards targeted interventions, and address challenges posed by the recent cut in United States Support.

The State Director also highlighted the need to address stigmatisation of people living with HIV (PLHIV), which, according to him, hinders access to treatment and care. Responding, the head of department for Health and Social Care of AKSACA, Mrs Amaka Okon, explained that the plan would guide the government and its partners on prevention, treatment and care for PLHIV and also strengthen the HIV response to meet the 2030 Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of Zero Infection.
