Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has approved the immediate suspension of the Rector and Bursar of the state polytechnic , Ogwashi-Uku for a period of six months.

Governor Oborevwori in his capacity as Visitor to the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, also upheld the earlier suspension of the Registrar by the Polytechnic’s Governing Council.

A statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Doctor Kingsley Emu, explained that the suspension of the principal officers is to allow for a thorough and unbiased investigation into allegations of administrative misconduct and financial breaches levelled against them by the Governing Council.

The statement further directed that the Deputy Rector shall act as Rector during the six-month suspension period, while the most senior accountant in the Bursary Department will serve as Acting Bursar for the same duration.

Meanwhile, the Delta State House of Assembly had on Thursday approved the suspension of the Polytechnic Rector, and thereafter communicated the approval to Governor Oborevwori.

The Polytechnic has been facing allegations of certificate racketeering, financial misappropriation and other administrative misconducts for months .

Few days ago, the Academic Staff Union of the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku embarked on a two-week strike over what they described as the high-handedness of the institution’s governing council.
