The Executive Chairman of Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, Hon. (Elder) Prince Godwin Ogorugba, has flagged off the Isoko North State Wards Empowerment Programme, with 200 beneficiaries receiving ₦50,000 each in the first phase of the initiative.
The programme, designed to support constituents, improve household welfare and stimulate grassroots economic development, covered Ozoro State Wards 14, 15, 16 and 17; Owhelogbo Wards 7 and 8; Otibio Ward 20; Otor-Owhe and Akiewhe-Oweh Wards 9 and 10; as well as Iyede Wards 1, 2 and 3.
The exercise attracted beneficiaries, community stakeholders, party leaders, faithful and large crowds at the designated distribution centres.
Speaking during the official flag-off , Ogorugba commended Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for the initiative, describing it as a strategic intervention to promote self-reliance, strengthen grassroots development and improve the welfare of residents across Isoko North and the state at large.
He explained that beneficiaries were selected from the participating wards to ensure fair representation, noting that the programme was also intended to cushion the effects of prevailing economic challenges on the people.
The council chairman reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to the development, advancement and empowerment of residents through Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda.
Ogorugba urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the financial support, particularly by investing in small-scale businesses and other productive ventures that could improve their livelihoods and boost economic activities within the local government area.
He also cautioned them against negative behaviours and activities that could jeopardise their future, stressing the need for responsible conduct and the productive use of the opportunity provided by the scheme.
According to him, the empowerment exercise will continue across the remaining wards, with the second phase scheduled to cover Emevor, Oyede, Ofagbe, Okpe-Isoko, Ellu, Aredhe and Ovrode.
Ogorugba also called on constituents to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Oborevwori and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), expressing optimism about the party’s prospects in the 2027 general elections.
Ward leaders were present at the first-phase exercise, where their supervision and coordination helped ensure a peaceful and orderly distribution process.
