Over 756 public and private primary schools in Delta State are to compete in the 2025 Zenith Delta Headmaster Football Cup Competition slated to commence next week Tuesday.

Briefing newsmen in Asaba, Delta State Commissioner for Primary Education, Dr Kingsley Ashibogwu gave assurances of fair officiating at the preliminary, zonal and final stages of the competition.

Ashibogwu said this year’s edition would feature some new innovations including enhanced scouting of talented players for state representation and capacity building workshops for Sports Officers, Games Masters and Physical and Health Education teachers in order to promote fair play, inclusive participation and character development in line with the Ministry’s mandate to nurture well rounded learners.

While commending the sponsor of the competition for its collaboration with the Delta State Ministry of Primary Education, Dr Ashibogwu hinted that the yearly event had recorded remarkable successes in discovering promising stars talented in football.

”It has also strengthened inter school relationships and reinforced the Ministry’s vision of using sports as a tool for holistic education and youth development.
We are particularly grateful to the management of Zenith Bank Nig. Plc. for their corporate social responsibility efforts which without doubt have continued to make meaningful impact in the lives of our young people, and this collaboration stands as a shining example of how the private sector can work together to advance education and youth development”, Ashibogwu stated.

Representative of the sponsor of the competition, Obayendo Ogheneovo, said the tournament had been sustained over the years , and had continued to grow in influence.

He said the sponsorship of the competition was in line with the bank’s corporate social responsibility which encourages sports development in the state.

”We appreciate His Excellency, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, the Executive Governor of Delta State, for his giant strides in sports development. The recently concluded 9th National Youth Games which was hosted at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba; is a clear indication of his love for sports. As sponsors, we are optimistic that this event will help to develop grass-root football, where young football talents will be discovered across the state..”, Ogheneovo stated

Executive Assistant to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Sports Development, Harrison Ocholor assured that painstaking planning and arrangements had been made for a successful 4th edition of the competition .

While urging the sponsor to ante its game, Ocholor said the competition was being overhauled for better efficiency and global exposure.
