Rivers state commissioner of Police, CP Olubenga Adepoju says officers involved in the attack on journalists during the take it back protest in Rivers are being interrogated and necessary actions will be taken when completed.

CP Adepoju stated this when he met with the executives of the state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, to apologise for the unfortunate incident.

The Rivers state police boss said the DPO under whose jurisdiction the anomaly occurred has been removed from that office.

CP Adepoju appealed to members of the union to continue the good works of supporting the police as their role in ensuring sanity and good governance cannot be overlooked.

In his response, Rivers state chairman of the NUJ, Mr. Paul Bazia while condemning the assault on the journalists who were carrying out their professional duties, maintained that the rights of citizens to carry out peaceful protest must not be trampled on.

Mr. Bazia added that for the synergy being enjoyed by both parties to continue, caution must be maintained in handling such situations by officers.
