
Rivers state Government led by sole administrator, retired Vice Admiral Ibok-ete Ibas has reiterarted its commitment to workers’ welfare and industrial harmony as they mark the international Workers Day today.
Special Adviser to the State Government on media, Hector Igbikiowubo said the sole administrator made this known during a meeting with the leadership of the organized labour unions at Government House, Port Harcourt.
According to the statement, the engagement provided a platform for frank discussions on key labour matters, such as Timely Payment of Salaries and Pensions, Resolution of Salary Arrears and Minimum Wage Compliance.
The Administrator assured the workers that of government’s dedication to improving working conditions for all civil servants in the state saying that approval has been given for payment of newly employed staff at Rivers State University Teaching Hospital and the Judiciary, while medical workers in Local Government Areas will now receive correct wages.
The statement went on to outline planned initiatives of the sole administrator for workers in the state to include Pension Reforms, Transportation Support, Capacity Building and Pensioners’ Welfare.
The Administrator commended workers for their dedication to service and called for sustained partnership with labour unions to maintain industrial peace. While assuring all workers of its unwavering commitment to their welfare and urged continued dedication to service delivery for the collective progress of the State.
