Warri Wolves have quickly turned their attention to Sunday’s Nigeria Premier Football League encounter against Kwara United in Ozoro, determined to put Wednesday’s 2-0 defeat to Rivers United in Port Harcourt behind them.
The Seasiders are still searching for their first point of the campaign after conceding once in each half at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, with the hosts sealing all three points with a late second-half goal.
Head Coach Hassan Abdallah responded at the start of the second half with three changes, introducing Ayila Olayemi for Sanni Ahmed, Olisema Cyril for David Joseph, and Isreal Oladeji for Blessing Ndubuisi as he looked to inject greater attacking impetus into the side.
The substitutions gave Warri Wolves more attacking bite after the restart, but the visitors were unable to find a breakthrough before Rivers United added a second goal late in the encounter.
Speaking after the match, Coach Abdallah said he had expected more from his players based on the team’s preparations and training sessions ahead of the fixture.
However, the coach remained positive about the team’s development, describing the squad as a work in progress, particularly with several young players gaining valuable experience against two top sides away from home.
Abdallah expressed confidence that the team would continue to develop and blend as the season progresses, while stressing the importance of quickly shifting focus to the next challenge.
That challenge comes on Sunday when Warri Wolves welcome Kwara United to their home ground in Ozoro.
With the Seasiders eager to get their first points on the board, Sunday’s encounter presents another opportunity for the team to build confidence, improve its performance and make progress in its NPFL campaign.
