The Interim Administrator Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC Dr. Efiong Akwa, says NDDC is determined to ensure better health care for the people of Niger Delta Region.
Dr. Akwa who made this known while handing over renovated and upgraded Infectious Tuberculosis Diseases Control Hospital in Taa baa, Khana Local Government Area Rivers State to the State government, said that NDDC took over the project in response to a request from the community.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of the Interventionist Agency, the Hospital was in a sorry state before NDDC took over the project.
The Interim Administrator gave assurance that the Hospital was well equipped with state-of-the-Art equipment to cater for the health needs of the residents.
Dr. Akwa who paid a courtesy call to the Paramount Ruler prior to the event enjoined the people to guard the facility against vandalism.
Reacting to the development, the paramount Ruler of Taabaa, His Royal Highness Mene Sunday Kabari who expressed delight over the renovation said that the Hospital will be of great benefit to the community.
He assured that the community will take responsibility of securing the equipment and the facility.
The Monarch however asked that the internal roads within the community be constructed by NDDC.
“Something good has happened to our community. I thank the NDDC for upgrading this health centre for us and providing the necessary facilities to make it a life-saving centre.
Receiving the Hospital on behalf of Rivers State Government, the Director Disease Control, Rivers State Primarily Health Care Management Board, Dr. Nyarawo Ekanem appreciated NDDC for the renovation, adding that he was satisfied with the equipment in the Hospital.
DR. Ekanem noted with pleasure that the renovation included staff quarters.
Apart from the medical equipment, the Hospital also has 100 KVA generator and solar system to guarantee steady power supply.
