Former Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo says the essence of politics is to make life better for the people.
He made the remark while inaugurating the Agbura-Ox-Bow Lake Road executed by the Bayelsa State Government.
The former Vice President noted that politics provides a veritable platform for political actors to offer services to citizens.
Professor Yemi Osinbajo called on leaders and public office holders to strive towards affecting the lives of the people positively.
While commending Governor Douye Diri for keeping to his promise of completing the Angiama-Oporoma Bridge which was inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu earlier this month, he remarked that the Agbura-Ox Bow Lake Road would link up and open communities in the area for rapid development.
In an address, Governor Douye Diri appreciated Professor Osinbajo for agreeing to inaugurate the road having laid the foundation for construction work for the Angiama-Oporoma Bridge when he was Vice President in February, 2022.
Governor Diri said the responsibility of every government was to initiate and execute projects that have direct bearing on the lives of the people, noting that the Agbura-Ox Bow Lake Road served that purpose.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Moses Teibowei explained that the 6.75 kilometer road which started on May 17, 2024 and completed in February this year would significantly reduce commuting hours between Yenagoa and Ogbia Local Government Areas.
The benefitting communities in a joint address presented by Chief Benson Okpenvie Ayibala were full of gratitude to Governor Diri and the State government for the project, appealing for more provision of infrastructure and amenities in the six communities.
The Agbura-Ox Bow Lake Road traverses through six communities from the Ox-Bow Lake axis of Swali, Ogu, Azikoro all in Yenagoa LGA to Agbura and Otuokpoti in Ogbia LGA.
