The Common Ground Journalism Forum has condemned in strong terms the recent assault and brutality on one of its members, Ambassador Allwell Ene, in his line of duty.
Ene was assaulted by thugs in the Garrison area of Port Harcourt while doing a follow up story for his medium and his phone, cash and other personal items stolen from him.
A statement by the Chairman of Search for Common Ground Journalists Forum, Bayelsa State, Mr. Alambo Datonye and Chair in Delta State Mrs. Evelyn Okonma calls on the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, and the Police Public Relations Officer, Agabe Blessing Kaborlo to order an immediate investigation and bring the perpetrators to book.
The Forum seeks assurances from the police and other security agencies of the safety of journalists in the course of performing their lawful duties, especially now that the political landscape is getting ready for another general election.
