The government of Cross River State has paid a visit to the survivors of a road accident that happened at Ikwette community, near the Obudu Ranch Resort in Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State, which claimed six lives and left seven others injured.
Arriving at the Sacred Heart Catholic Hospital, Obudu on Sunday, the Deputy Governor of the State, Mr Peter Odey, accompanied by some government officials and clergymen, expressed heartfelt sympathy to the victims and their families, and also extended the condolences of the state government to those mourning the loss of their loved ones.

During his tour of the hospital wards, guided by medical personnel, the Deputy Governor gave words of encouragement to the injured and assured them of the state government’s full support for their medical treatment and recovery.
“This is a painful loss for all of us. We pray that God will comfort the families of the deceased and grant them the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss.
“May those of you who survived the unfortunate incident heal quickly and find strength in this difficult time. l urge you not to lose hope.”
Mr Odey also commended the swift response of emergency personnel at the Ranch Resort, including the Nigerian Army stationed in the area, for their prompt efforts in assisting the victims at the accident scene.
He reaffirmed government’s commitment to prioritizing the safety and well-being of citizens and visitors alike, pledging continued collaboration with relevant agencies to enhance road safety, especially in tourism zones.

The accident, which occured last week Saturday, involved a commercial vehicle reportedly conveying tourists from the Ranch.
Eyewitnesses said the vehicle lost control due to brake failure while navigating a sharp bend at the foot of the Obudu Ranch hill, resulting in the devastating crash.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the State Governor, said preliminary investigation revealed that the victims were seminarians who came on a bus belonging to the Enugu Catholic Church Diocese.
lt added that they were led on a tour by a Reverend Father and had finished their tour of the ranch before encountering the unfortunate incident outside the ranch premises.
The statement added, “In the wake of this tragedy, the state government is making necessary contacts to reach the various families and provide any needed assistance”.
It further noted that, “Safety is our utmost priority in the Ranch Resort and beyond; we urge all visitors to prioritize safety, including the roadworthiness of their vehicles, and to adhere to all guidelines while coming to our beautiful attractions, and leaving the confines of the Resort.”
