The Director-General of the Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications, Dr. (Barr.) Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, has attributed the remarkable growth in Delta State’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to the visionary leadership of Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and the institutional excellence of the Delta State Internal Revenue Service (DSIRS).

Oghenesivbe, in a statement made available to newsmen in Asaba, said the increase in the state’s IGR from about ₦84 billion in 2023 to over ₦200 billion within a short period is a clear demonstration of the success of Governor Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E. Agenda, particularly its focus on fiscal sustainability, economic diversification and prudent financial management.

He also commended the Executive Chairman of the Delta State Internal Revenue Service, Hon. (Chief) Solomon Ighrakpata, alongside the Board, management and staff of the agency, for their professionalism, innovation and commitment to implementing the Governor’s economic policies.

According to him, the DSIRS has strengthened the state’s revenue base through institutional reforms, technology-driven tax administration, improved taxpayer compliance, expansion of the tax net and the elimination of revenue leakages, all without imposing additional tax burdens on residents.

The Bureau Director-General noted that the significant increase in revenue has enhanced the state’s capacity to fund critical sectors, including infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, security and industrial development, while expanding other people-oriented programmes.

Oghenesivbe further described the recent commendation of Delta State by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) as a well-deserved recognition of the administration’s sound fiscal policies and the outstanding performance of the DSIRS.

He said the recognition underscores Delta State’s growing reputation as a leading sub-national government in domestic revenue mobilisation, transparent tax administration and sustainable fiscal governance.

The Director-General added that the Oborevwori administration’s strategic investments in agriculture, industrialisation and public-private partnerships are broadening the state’s economic base, attracting investments, creating jobs and ensuring that increased revenue translates into meaningful improvements in the lives of Deltans.

He stressed that the synergy between Governor Oborevwori’s leadership and the institutional efficiency of the DSIRS has become a model of effective governance, proving that strong institutions and disciplined policy implementation are essential to sustainable economic growth and inclusive development.

While congratulating Governor Oborevwori, Hon. (Chief) Solomon Ighrakpata, the Board, management and staff of the DSIRS on the historic feat, Oghenesivbe urged taxpayers and stakeholders to continue supporting the state’s ongoing reforms.

He expressed confidence that sustained innovation, transparency and prudent leadership would further strengthen Delta State’s position as one of Nigeria’s leading economies and a benchmark for fiscal resilience, inclusive growth and sustainable prosperity.
