The Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development says it remains committed to policies and programmes that strengthen family life, welfare, dignity, and protection of families across the state.
The State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Eugenia Abdallah gave the assurance in a statement to commemorate this year’s International Day of Families with the theme: “Families, Inequalities and Child Wellbeing.”
According to the statement, investing in families is an investment in national development as strong families build strong communities, and ultimately a stronger society.
The statement notes that this year’s theme draws attention to the growing inequalities confronting families across the world, as well the direct impact current economic challenges have on the wellbeing, protection, education, and future of children.
It also highlights the urgent need for stronger family-oriented policies and social protection systems that support healthy child development and promote equal opportunities for all.
The statement explains that families remain the foundation of every society and play a critical role in nurturing responsible, productive, and compassionate citizens.
As the global community marks the International day of Family, the Ministry calls on parents, caregivers, community leaders, civil society organizations, religious bodies, and development partners to continue working together to create safe, supportive, and nurturing environments where every child can thrive regardless of social or economic background.
