Port Harcourt Township United Pressure Group has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to use his good office to rescind the state of emergency placed on Rivers State, which led to the suspension of the executive and legislative arms of the state.
Leader of the group, Prince John Tamunokuro, during a protest, said the situation has dampened the spirit of citizens, stressing that even the Sole Administrator, retired vice admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas had confirmed the peaceful atmosphere in the state.
“Let it be repeated that in 2023 Rivers state joined then Amapusenibo Siminalayi Fubara to work for the successful election of Mr President, it promises to bigger and better in 2027, Governor Fubara as the political leader of Rivers State has the massive support of the people, so will have them with him during the election and afterwards, Mr President please bring back our democratically elected governor we all voted for Governor Siminalayi Fubara “
Prince Tamunokro, while describing the suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara as one with the interests of the people at heart, urged President Bola Tinubu not to be swayed by false reports being peddled by those he described as enemies of the state.

“Even the sole administrator Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas admitted on resumption of duty last month that Rivers State is peaceful showing that he was shocked by what he met as existed in the state compared to the chaotic and deadly posture he was given, it was thus clear from the onset that Rivers state did not deserve a state of emergency declaration, emergency script appears to be a receipt for power grab agents against the development of the state and so deliberately informed Mr President “
He maintained that the people of the state were in support of the president and would not carry out activities that could truncate governance.
The protesters carried placards with inscriptions including, Governor Fubara Is The Reason Why Rivers State Is Peaceful, If not Governor Fubara Who Else, We Want Back Our Governor All Voted For, amongst others.
The protesters moved from Aggrey road to Central Bank Junction in Port Harcourt.
