
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Edo State Council has declared that the state would not be part of the planned protest against insecurity across the country proposed by the national body.
This was contained In a statement signed by the Edo State Chairman of NLC , Comrade Bernard Egwekhide, and made available to newsmen in Benin City.
The statement read: “It has come to the notice of the leadership of the Nigerian labour congress, Edo state
council that the national body, led by comrade Joe Ajaero is planning to embark on a protest against insecurity across the country.
It noted that “Edo State council have decided not to be part of the planned protest due to the fact that the protest was ill planned and was coming at a time of the year when a lot of people will be travelling or preparing to travel for the yuletide celebration and Edo state, being a gateway state cannot afford the kind of confusion this protest can cause at such a time”.
The statement stressed that this was a critical time in the economy of the nation and Edo state , any kind of protest would be an avenue for hoodlums to hijack the process and turn it into a leeway to commit various atrocities and unleash mayhem on unsuspecting citizens and residents of the state.
It added that” though they are not unaware of the security challenges faced by Nigeria and the world at large, they wish to use this medium to advice the government of Edo state that has left no stone unturned in tackling the insecurity in our state.
The statement charged all the security agencies to double up their efforts in the fight against insecurity in the land.
“Consequent on the above, we in Edo State council or any of our affiliated organs will
not be a part of the planned protest of on December 17, 2025. All affiliates are directed to bring this information to the notice of their members for
compliance.”
Recall that the national body, led by comrade Joe Ajaero is planning to embark on a protest against insecurity in the country, Wednesday, December 17, 2025.
