About 250 elderly citizens in Akwa Ibom State have been empowered with two hundred thousand naira each by the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) of the wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

Disbursing the third edition of the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS) with the Theme: “Finding Joy in Old Age”, at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Uyo, Senator Tinubu explained that the social investment programme embodies RHI’s ongoing effort at ensuring that elderly citizens live with dignity and joy, in a nation that genuinely cares for its own.

Represented by the State Coordinator of RHI, Lady Helen Eno Obareki, Senator Tinubu noted that the it is Renewed Hope Initiative’s tradition to celebrate senior citizens every December, in recognition of their invaluable contributions to nation-building since the inception of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2023.

“Through this scheme, we have continued to express our gratitude and care for the men and women who have laboured to build the Nigeria we are all proud to be part of, today.

‎”This scheme is to support Two Hundred and Fifty (250) vulnerable elderly citizens aged 65 and above in all the 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory, and veterans from the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA),” she stated.

The wife of the President advised the senior citizens to try their best possible to find joy in old age, positing that ageing gracefully is not just about longevity but about being surrounded by love, support, and respect.

Senator Tinubu encouraged the elderly to continue to play their part by staying healthy and active and as well nurturing their bodies and minds through regular exercise and meaningful engagements.

Mr Abasiama Idiong, speaking on behalf of the other beneficiaries, expressed gratitude to Senator Oluremi Tinubu for her generosity, noting that the financial support would significantly help them meet their needs.

High point of the event was the symbolic presentation of cheques to some beneficiaries, even as the banquet hall erupted with excitement as the beneficiaries received credit alerts of N200,000 during the event, which was further spiced up with a thrilling performance by the Young Professionals
