A man, who was living with his girlfriend known as Ruth Ngozi Sunday, has stabbed her to death during a bloody fight.
According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the state, DSP Timfon John, and made available to Journalists in Uyo, the incident happened in Eket, Akwa Ibom State.
She said the duo lived together at Qua River Quarters in Eket local government area of the state where the fight ensued as two of them used kitchen knife to stab themselves repeatedly.
The PPRO said the command received information about the deadly fight of the two love birds and swung into action only to discover that two of them found on the floor of their apartment as the girl was dead while the boy sustained critical injuries and was struggling in the pool of blood
The statement reads in parts “At approximately 10:15 AM on the 6th of May, 2025, the Operative of the Command received information regarding a violent altercation at Qua River Quarters, Eket.
“Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered a female, later identified as Ruth Ngozi Sunday, and her cohabiting boyfriend lying on the floor in a pool of blood.”
She said while the boyfriend was found in critical condition , Ruth was found dead on the spot before they were rushed to hospital where she was confirmed dead and the unidentified boyfriend admitted for treatment.
The statement noted that preliminary investigation revealed they engaged in dangerous fight using kitchen knife to stab each other resulting in the death of the girl.
“Tragically, Ruth Sunday was found lifeless in pool of blood. Her boyfriend, whose identity is yet to be confirmed, was found in a critical condition, gasping for life and was immediately rushed along with girlfriend for medical attention where she was confirmed dead at the hospital while the boyfriend admitted for medical treatment.”
Ms John said that the deadly weapon was recovered at the scene as the command made efforts to locate relatives of the randy boyfriend.
“The suspected murder weapon has been recovered by the police. Efforts are underway to locate the relatives of the boyfriend, while the family of the deceased has been contacted.
She said further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
