As the conclave to select a new Pope enters day 2, some Catholic faithful in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, are praying for God’s guidance in the process.
The faithfuls who spoke with Radio Nigeria expressed their desire that the next Pope would be at the service of humanity, promoting world unity, peace and salvation.
One of the faithful Mrs. Christabel Obiekwe said her prayer is for the new Pope to be a true servant of God and the people
She said “we need a Pope that will see himself as a servant here on earth, that will carry both the children, the youth, adult and the aged along, a pope that will act as human not just as a leader, a good shepherd that will carry his people to the promise land that’s my wish for the church”.
Another faithful Mr. Ikechukwu Umesi while describing the waiting period as a very crucial moment in the church, prayed that the new Pope would lead the world to God through his actions and utterances.
“A unifying Pope who reaches out to the marginalized, tackles the global issues like insecurities and poverty represents the voice of the global south promoting peace, justice and interfering dialogue ensures transparency and accountability regarding abuse scandals. A Pope that embraces technology to connect globally and spread the gospel globally to the circular world” he noted.
A total of 133 cardinal electors are taking part in the conclave, the voting process to pick a successor to Pope Francis, who died last month after a 12-year papacy.
