The Vatican ambassador to Nigeria, His Grace Archbishop Francis Michael-Crotty has described the emergence of the new Pope as interesting and a joyous moment for the Catholic church.

Speaking on the emergence of the new pope, Archbishop Francis-Crotty said the world will soon get to know the new Pope and how he will be leading the church.

The prelate said the new Pope was close to Pope Francis, and it is most likely that he will continue with the trajectory of Pope Francis.

“We will get to know him, and people will want to know what he plans to do, he was close to Pope Francis, and you can say his arrival in Rome was personally willed by Pope Francis, and choice of his name is interesting” he said.

According to the Vatican ambassador, the last Pope that took the name Leo remains the brain behind the social teachings of the church up till today, adding that it is left to be seen if the new Pope will follow the footstep of Pope Leo the 13th.

He said, “We will have to wait and see why he chose the name, Leo, In fact there were many Leos, my speculation is that he will look to his immediate pope, that is pope Leo XIII. When pope benedict chose the name benedict xvi, he explained it”.

Archbishop Francis-Crotty said the Catholic Church has always lived in the world with all the challenges, adding that the new Pope Leo the 14th will soon make the policy of his papacy known to the world.
