The rising insecurity in Abua/Odual Local Government Area has continued to generate concern following the killing of two indigenes of Emirikpoko Community by gunmen.
The victims, identified as Moses Matthew Arugu and Azubuike Monday, were timber businessmen who were reportedly attacked while carrying out their business activities. The attacks occurred between May 29 and May 30 along the Ozochi Forest in Ahoada East Local Government Area and the Idoda Forest in Ahoada West Local Government Area. While the mutilated body of Moses Matthew Arugu has been recovered, Azubuike Monday remains missing, with efforts still ongoing to locate his body.
Reacting to the incident, the Paramount Ruler of Odual Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, King Temple MacDonald, called on security agencies to immediately launch a thorough investigation and ensure those responsible are arrested and prosecuted. The monarch stressed that justice must not only be done but must also be seen to be done.
He also urged the Chairmen of Abua/Odual, Ahoada East and Ahoada West Local Government Areas to take urgent steps to ensure justice for the victims. King MacDonald further sympathised with the bereaved families and prayed for strength to help them bear the painful loss. The Rivers State Police Command has not spoken on this.
