NDDC TO ROLL OUT YOUTH INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME

The Managing Director Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, DR. Samuel Ogbuku says the commission will roll out youth internship programme to build capacity among youths of Niger Delta region. 

Dr. Ogbuku who  made the revelation during a courtesy visit by the management of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, explained that the programme would entail youths being attached to different agencies and organization for a period of six months to enable them acquire skills that will make them self reliant. 

While giving assurance that NDDC will continue to support tertiary institutions in the region, he enjoined  the University to find solutions to issues of ecology and environmental degradation in the Niger Delta area. 

The Chief Executive officer of the Interventionist agency told the team that NDDC will partner the institution in the area of research in specialized areas to  reduce  capital flight in overseas scholarships. 

According to him, apart from carrying out projects in the school, some lecturers may be sent overseas  for advanced studies to enable them impact meaningfully in the lives of the students. 

Earlier on, the Vice Chancellor, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education Rumuolumini, Professor Okechukwu Onuchukwu who  appreciated NDDC Board  for their inauguration, requested for operational  vehicles, internal roads and   other projects in the institution. 

Professor Onuchukwu  stated that Ignatius Ajuru University has a befitting research center available for any kind of research. 

He however regretted that NDDC’s presence has not been felt in the institution. 

On his part, the Executive Director, Finance and Administration, Retired Major General Charles Airhiavbere thanked  the team for the visit and  stressed the need for closer interaction between both parties.
