RURAL COMMUNITIES IN RIVERS STATE CALL FOR BASIC AMENTIES

Ten Communities in Rivers State have called for quality HealthCare Facilities, provision of portable water and some other basic amenities in their communities.

They made the call at a public forum in Port Harcourt to assess the level of service delivery by the Government in rural communities.

Communities in Onelga, Bonny, Etche, Gokana, Oyigbo and some others affected by the Connected Development, CODE’s Empowering oil rich communities to demand for improved service delivery from the Government, were delighted to demand for accountability from those handling Government Projects in their areas, through best approaches, like using the Civil Liberty Groups, the Media and the like.

A Traditional Ruler, in Obakata community in Omoku, Onelga Local Government Area, Chief Osakwe Gift and two others, said the forum had accorded them the opportunity to address some concerns.

Communications Manager of Code; Mr. Stephen Akinfalada and Code’s State Staff Support, Ms. Evelyn Williams, in an interview, decried the level of non functional Health facilities in some rural communities in the State.

In her response, Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaezeh Oreh assured that the State Government is determined to deliver quality and accessible Health Care Services to the people.

The forum sponsored by Ford Foundation, sort to assess the level of capacity built in three years, was attended by community members from over eight Local Government Areas in Rivers State.
