MOSOP LAUDS NSCDC CG FOR UNBIASED DEPLOYMENT OF SENIOR PERSONNEL SEEKS STRONGER COLLABORATIONS TO COMBAT OIL THEFT IN RIVERS STATE

The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) have expressed their utmost delight in the deployment of highly professional, Intelligence driven and dedicated Senior officers to Coastal States of the Federation by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Commandant General, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi mni OFR.

Speaking of behalf of the Movement; Pastor Festus Legbara noted that the deployment of NSCDC State Commandants across the Coastal areas depicts compliance with the Federal Character and utmost desire of the CG to combat the menace of Oil theft in the region.

The MOSOP President commended the NSCDC Rivers State Commandant Basil Igwebueze for creating an enabling environment through cordial relationship with the public which has obviously enhanced people’s confidence in the NSCDC most especially in quick response to distress calls during emergencies.

“Our sincere appreciation goes to the CG for the crop of Commandants deployed to States in the Coastal areas, this shows that his administration is all inclusive; we must also commend the Rivers State Commandant for the kind reception and prompt response to our demands whenever the need arises”.

“This visit is centered on cementing the relationship and to let the authorities be aware that there is a new leadership in MOSOP and that we are peaceful people ready to work with this administration to fight oil theft and illegal dealings in petroleum products in Rivers State”

Legbara said despite there were serious agitations by the Ogoni People seeking the attention of the government, the people have remained peaceful and now is the time to reap the dividends of their long term prayers; he however lamented that the expected life span of his people had drastically reduced due to the effects of pollution of the air and the Ogoni environment.

He pleaded that the management of the NSCDC would consider the recruitment of the youths in the coastal states as this would further create better opportunities for them because an idle hand is the devil’s workshop.

In his response the Rivers State Commandant Basil Igwebueze hinted that the NSCDC holds all social, economic and cultural Organization in high esteem and that the history of the nation can not be completed without conspicuous remarks on the Ogoni People.

“Your visit is very germane and it is very important to state that the NSCDC holds all social, economic and cultural Organization in a very high esteem”.

“The peace and security of Ogoni People is paramount to the Corps. Just as the nation’s history cannot be completed without conspicuous remarks on the Ogoni People”.

“This is because the people are naturally endowed and have contributed immensely to the socio-economic development of the nation”.

Commandant Basil stressed on the need to consiously embrace Peace and Unity as a nation by annexing all resources and put aside all differences but rather focus on what seems to bind us together rather than what divides us.

He opined that the success of the long term prayers and agitations of Ogoni People lies in their togetherness, maintenance of peace, law and order, engaging the youth in positive ventures and abhorring social vices, crime and criminalities.

The NSCDC Rivers State Commandant further relayed that the appointment and recruitment of Corps’ Personnel are in full compliance with the Principle of federal character.

“The Corps is mindful in the inclusion of all aspects of the society in the scheme of things; appointments and recruitments are based on national interest which encompasses the states and tribes of the country. We do not recruit without recourse to the federal character principle and when this are done, they go a long way to ventilate the commitment of the Commandant General in pursuit of the fundamental objectives and directive principles of the Corps”.

In the highpoint of the courtesy visit there was presentation of award souvenir, exchange of pleasantries and group photographs.
