The Isoko South Local Government Council in Delta State has resumed the distribution of school desks to government-owned public primary schools across the local government area, in a renewed effort to improve classroom facilities and create a more conducive learning environment for pupils.

The initiative, driven by the administration of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Friday Ovoke Warri, seeks to address shortages of classroom furniture and ensure that pupils have access to comfortable seating arrangements that support effective teaching and learning.

The latest phase of the exercise took the council’s distribution team to primary schools in Ikpide-Irri, where newly supplied desks were delivered to improve classroom conditions and enhance pupils’ learning experiences.

Speaking on the initiative, Warri reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening basic education through the provision of essential facilities in public primary schools across Isoko South.

He stressed that a conducive learning environment was fundamental to children’s academic development, adding that the council would continue to identify and address challenges affecting public schools in the area.

“Our children deserve a comfortable and conducive environment in which to learn. Education remains a critical foundation for the future of our communities, and we must do everything within our capacity to give our pupils the facilities they need to succeed. Providing school desks is not just about supplying furniture; it is about improving the quality of the learning environment and encouraging our children to take their education seriously,” the chairman said.

Warri explained that inadequate classroom furniture could negatively affect pupils’ comfort, concentration and participation during lessons. He noted that his administration was committed to taking practical steps to address such challenges and improve the overall quality of basic education.

“We understand that improving education requires deliberate and practical action. This is why we are taking steps to address some of the basic challenges confronting our schools. We want our pupils to learn in an environment that supports their development, while also giving teachers the necessary conditions to carry out their responsibilities effectively,” he added.

The chairman assured residents that the desk distribution exercise would extend to other government-owned primary schools across the local government area, emphasising that the welfare of children and the strengthening of the basic education system remained priorities of his administration.

He also urged school authorities to ensure the proper maintenance and responsible use of the desks, stressing that the cooperation of teachers, parents and host communities would be essential to sustaining improvements in the education sector.

The exercise is being coordinated under the direct supervision of the Secretary to the Isoko South Local Government Council, Hon. Zino Osuofa, who is overseeing its implementation on behalf of the chairman.

According to the council, the initiative forms part of its broader efforts to strengthen basic education, improve classroom infrastructure and provide a more supportive learning environment for pupils and teachers throughout Isoko South.

The distribution is expected to continue in other public primary schools across the local government area as the council intensifies efforts to tackle furniture shortages and improve learning conditions.
