Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has intensified his administration’s infrastructure drive with the inauguration of three major road projects spanning about 18 kilometres in Ndokwa West Local Government Area, while directing the commencement of Phase II of the Utagba-Uno/Ndemili Road.

The projects include the 4.5-kilometre Obi-Ibabu/Ibabu Road in Onicha-Ukwuani, Phase I of the 5-kilometre Utagba-Uno/Ndemili Road, and the 8.4-kilometre Etua-Ukpo/Etua-Etiti/Etua-Oliogo Road, all aimed at improving connectivity, boosting economic activities and accelerating rural development across Ndokwa Nation.

At the ceremony in Utagba-Uno, Governor Oborevwori described the roads as strategic investments that would open up communities to commerce, reduce transportation costs and attract new investments. He said the projects underscored his administration’s determination to ensure equitable development across all parts of Delta State.

“Today marks another milestone in our commitment to bringing meaningful development to the doorsteps of our people. The roads we are commissioning are critical to trade, commerce and our rural renewal programme,” the governor stated.

Oborevwori noted that the Utagba-Uno/Ndemili Road was designed as a phased project and directed the Commissioner for Works to begin the processes for the execution of the second phase. He also recalled the recent groundbreaking ceremony of the Aboh-Akarai Road and Bridge across the Okiri River, reaffirming his pledge to spread development projects fairly across the state.

While commending contractors for the timely delivery of the completed roads, the governor expressed dissatisfaction with delays on the Inam-Abbi Access Road and the Utagba-Uno-Eweshi Road projects. He warned that unnecessary delays would not be tolerated and instructed the Ministry of Works to ensure both projects are completed before the end of the year.

The governor further disclosed that work was progressing on several other road projects in Ndokwa Nation, including the Emu-Ebendo-Iyasele-Ashaka Road, the access road to the Kwale Industrial Park, Emu-Beneku Road, Ogbedigbo-Afor Road and the Timber Road to Waterside in Obiaruku.

Addressing the persistent electricity challenges in the area, Oborevwori revealed that government had approved the rehabilitation of power infrastructure but lamented the vandalism of completed facilities. He assured residents that efforts were underway to restore electricity supply and urged communities to protect public assets from destruction.

Reaffirming his commitment to prudent resource management and people-centred governance, the governor said the visible infrastructure projects across Delta State were evidence of responsible leadership. He also reiterated the state’s support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, stressing the need for continued alignment with policies that drive national development.

Earlier, Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme described the projects as the fulfilment of long-standing aspirations of the Ndokwa people, while Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, said the roads had transformed previously inaccessible communities and would stimulate economic growth.

Ndokwa West Council Chairman, Chief Obi Nzete, and community leaders including Kenneth Oseji and Comrade Amaechi Asugwuni praised the governor for what they described as unprecedented infrastructure development across Ndokwa Nation.
