The Chairman of Isoko North Local Government Council, Godwin Ogorugba, has paid over ₦2.4 million in medical bills for students of Oyede Comprehensive Secondary School who were injured in a tricycle accident while returning from the 2026 Children’s Day celebration.

Ogorugba, who visited the school management in Oyede, expressed gratitude to God for sparing the lives of the students, describing their survival as an act of divine protection. He disclosed that the council had fully settled the victims’ medical expenses and also pledged to repair the school bus to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The council chairman assured parents, students and school authorities of his administration’s commitment to the safety and welfare of pupils and students across Isoko North, stressing the need for schools to prioritize safety measures. He also promised to collaborate with relevant authorities to forestall a recurrence.

“On behalf of my family and the good people of Isoko North, I pray for the quick and complete recovery of all the students. Their lives matter to us. We will continue to support our schools and protect our children,” Ogorugba stated.

Explaining the circumstances that led to the accident, the school principal, Mrs. Udhe S.E., said the school bus was grounded due to four damaged tyres, forcing the school to transport students to the Children’s Day event at the council secretariat using public tricycles.

She thanked the council chairman for his swift intervention, describing his decision to offset the medical bills and repair the school bus as a demonstration of genuine concern and fatherly care for the students and the people of Isoko North.

Meanwhile, Ogorugba has congratulated the immediate past First Lady of Delta State and founder of the 05 Initiative Foundation, Dame Edith Okowa, on her 65th birthday anniversary.

In a statement issued in Ozoro, the council chairman described Dame Okowa as a compassionate leader, a God-fearing woman and a mother figure whose humanitarian initiatives, particularly through the 05 Initiative, have positively impacted countless lives across Nigeria.

He commended her contributions to quality healthcare delivery and women’s economic empowerment in Delta State, noting that her legacy of service remains a model for others.

“Her Excellency remains a shining example of selfless service, compassion and leadership. On behalf of the government and people of Isoko North Local Government Area, I celebrate our mother, Dame Edith Okowa, on her 65th birthday and pray that God grants her many more years in good health, wisdom and strength to continue her impactful work for humanity,” Ogorugba said.
