
Over five hundred Over five hundred residents of Lolama and Dangama Communities in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area Rivers State, have benefited from free medical outreach by Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC.
Speaking at the event in Port Harcourt Rivers State, Director Health NDDC, Dr. Anthony Umezuruike explained that the commission staged the medical outreach to provide medical care to the host community of the commission.
Dr. Umezuruike who was optimistic of the quality of medical services at the outreach said it was being done in collaboration with Nigeria Medical Association.
“We have dental care, we even have obstetrics, gynecology, cardiology, we have dermatology, we have pharmacy, the eye care is available, we have medical laboratory, there is general consultation, we have specialist consultation, it is a wide variety of medical services.”
On his part, Chairman, Nigeria Medical Association NMA , Rivers State branch, Dr. Diamond Tamunokuro described the gesture by NDDC as worthwhile and encouraged other organizations to toe the same path.
“It is a nice thing NDDC is doing, we are delighted because medical outreach is a way of giving back to the society, particularly this time when many people in the Niger Delta cannot afford healthcare, NDDC is providing this Free medical services.”
Similarly, a tech expert who invented one of the medical equipments in use at the outreach, Mr. NGOZI Odimuko described the equipment as an all encompassing in health assessment.
Two of the Beneficiaries, an elder in the Community, Chief Philimon Tamuno and Mrs. Eunice Johnson said they were happy to be treated free of charge.
“I think it is a good one, I have received eye glasses. I want to encourage NDDC to always remember their host communities”
The beneficiaries requested that the outreach be made regular.
The outreach forms part of the activities leading to the Silver Jubilee of the commission.
