CALL FOR WOMEN FRIENDLY POLICIES DOMINATE 2024 INTERNATIONAL WOMEN DAY EVENT

The Governor Siminalaye Fubara led Administration has reiterated its preparedness to indulge in gender friendly policies in Rivers State for the advancement of the State.

This was stated by the Deputy Governor of the State, Professor Ngozi Odu while delivering her address at an event in the State to mark this year’s International Women’s Day celebration.

The Deputy Governor of Rivers State, assured that the leadership of the State has put policies in place to empower women, as well as fight discrimination against women in the State.

State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Roseline Uranta in her speech, encouraged women to indulge in self enhancing ventures.

While dwelling on the theme of the observance; Invest in Women, Accelerate Progress, the guest Speaker, Dr. Dabota Jumbo, called for equal pay in jobs done by both men and women, as well as advocate policies that would enhance the social wellbeing of women.

In her goodwill message on the event, the Director, Kebetkache Women Development and Resource Centre, Dr. Emem Okon, wants the Government and the Multinational Companies, to do the needful before divesting, in order to save the livelihood of community women, in the Niger Delta Area.

The event which was colourfully attended by women from various feminine groups, religious bodies, government functionaries and Civil Society Organizations, also featured free medicals.
