PRESIDENT TINUBU COMMENDS NDDC LEADERSHIP, COMMITS TO DEVELOPMENT OF NIGER DELTA REGION

President Bola Tinubu has reiterated commitment towards the overall development of Niger Delta region. 

President Tinubu who made this commitment at Niger Delta Stakeholders Summit put together by Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC in Port Harcourt Rivers State, acknowledged that the commission has made significant progress under the present management

The Niger Delta Stakeholders Summit with the Theme, Renewed Hope for sustainable development of Niger Delta, was a gathering of all the key players in Niger Delta region to brainstorm  and come up with new ideas that will navigate towards the actualization of Niger Delta master plan or review, if need be. 

Addressing the participants, President Bola Tinubu who was delighted over notable achievements by present leadership of the commission, told the people that more funds has been made available in the commission’s budget to tackle abandonment of projects. 

Represented by Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, the president promised that  East West Road would receive urgent attention.

Chairman of the occasion and former President,  Dr. Goodluck Jonathan who  emphasized the importance of industrialization of Niger Delta region,  insisted that the region should venture into Agriculture to fight food insecurity. 

Dr. Jonathan who observed that one of the challenges of NDDC in the past was pressure from the political class, asked politicians from the region to reduce their influence on the commission to enable it fulfil its mandate. 

On his part, minister of of Niger Delta Development, Chief Abubakar Momoh who  said that  it was worthwhile to have the Niger Delta people to gather and discuss on issues of development, stressed the need for collaboration among Federal Government intervention agencies in the region to achieve a common goal. 

In his contribution, Governor of Bayelsa State expressed displeasure over the deplorable condition of East West Road and called on relevant authorities to make it a priority. 

In a vote of thanks, Managing Director NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku while appreciating participants, assured the people that present leadership of NDDC was willing to partner all stakeholders  to fast track development of Niger Delta Region. 

Present at the occasion were Governors, National Assembly members from the region, traditional rulers, former governors, among others. 

It is expected that the outcome of the Summit would redefine the road map towards the development of Niger Delta Region.
